Some artwork has arrived for the upcoming revival of Clifford Odets’ The Big Knife, and it’s got us thinking about just one thing: Mad Men! The opening credits of the AMC drama feature a similar falling man (stylishly reminiscent of designer Saul Bass) whose plummet is just so dramatic. Both shows follow suited men in freefall—The Big Knife focusing on well-dressed Hollywood execs in the ‘40s, and Mad Men revolving around well-dressed ad execs in the ‘60s. Huge difference, right? But while Mad Men’s lissome falling fella drops through a metropolitan purgatory, The Big Knife’s gravity-obeying gent plunges headfirst down a film strip.
